The videoclub #3

The videoclub is a meme created by me and inspired from another meme by the lovely Saefiel, in French. Every month on the 25th, I talk about the movies and TV series I've been watching throughout the month, as well as the ones I'd like to watch next month. Because, believe it or not, but there is more than just books in my life!

~Movies~

The Maze Runner, directed by Wes Ball (2014), based on the book by James Dashner. Featuring
Dylan O'Brien (Thomas), Ki  Hong Lee (Minho), Kaya Scodelario (Teresa)...

Synopsis: When Thomas wakes up trapped in a massive maze with a group of other boys, he has no memory of the outside world other than strange dreams about a mysterious organization known as W.C.K.D. Only by piecing together fragments of his past with clues he discovers in the maze can Thomas hope to uncover his true purpose and a way to escape.

Opinion: I loved the book so I was looking forward to watching the movie, and it didn't disappoint. Well, a few things have been changed between book and movie, but all the main elements were there and the overall plot was the same so I didn't mind that much. And the Maze looked exactly as I pictured it in my mind while reading! I also really liked the cast. Contrary to many I didn't know Dylan O'Brien before because I don't watch Teen Wolf (and I don't particularly feel like watching it) but now I can understand why he has so many fan, he really is a good actor.

Movies I want to watch next month:

Samba: French movie by the directors of Intouchables, and told to be as good as Intouchables. That's enough to make me curious.
The Giver: I read the book by Lois Lowry long ago, and I'm quite curious to see how it looks like on the big screen.

~TV Series~

Orphan Black, season 2, directed by Graeme Manson and John Fawcett (2013). Featuring Tatiana Maslany (Sarah / Alison / Cosima / Helena / Rachel...), Jordan Gavaris (Felix)...

Synopsis: Orphan Black follows outsider, orphan and street-wise chameleon Sarah. After witnessing a woman's suicide, Sarah assumes the stranger's identity - who happens to look just like her. Expecting to solve all her problems by cleaning out the dead woman's savings, Sarah is instead thrust headlong into a kaleidoscopic mystery as she realizes the dizzying truth - she and the dead woman are clones. As Sarah searches for answers, she discovers the chilling fact that there are more people like her out there - genetically identical individuals who were planted in unsuspecting birth parents and nurtured in completely different circumstances. With no idea who created the clones, she'll need to discover the reason in a hurry as an assassin is killing them one by one.

Episodes watched this month: 6-8/10

Opinion: I don't know what to say except that I am a total fan of this series. I love the characters, I love how the main actress, Tatiana Maslany plays all the different clones so well, I love the plot that become wider and more complex with each new episode... Basically, I love everything about this series.

--------

Once Upon a Time, season 2, directed by Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis (2012). Featuring
Jennifer Morrison (Emma), Ginnifer Goodwin (Mary Margaret/Snow White), Lana Parilla (Regina/The evil queen)...

Synopsis: For Emma Swan, life has been anything but a happy ending. But when she's reunited with Henry - the son she gave up for adoption ten years ago - on the night of her 28th birthday, everything changes. The now 10-year-old Henry is in desperate need of Emma's help because he believes from reading a book of fairytales that she's the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming - who sent her away from the Enchanted Forest to be protected from a curse that was enacted by the Evil Queen. Emma initially refuses to believe a word of Henry's story but soon finds that his hometown of Storybrooke, Maine is more than it seems. Because it's in Storybrooke that all of the classic characters we know are frozen in time with no memories of their former selves - except for the Evil Queen, who is Storybrooke's mayor and Henry's adoptive mother Regina Mills. Now, as the epic "Final Battle" for the future of both worlds approaches, Emma will have to accept her destiny and uncover the mystery behind a place ...

Episodes watched this month: 14/22

Opinion: I'm slowly starting to watch this series again although season 2 has been a disappointment to me so far, but I really want to watch season 4 with the Frozen characters. So, even though at least once per episode something makes me sigh because there are a few incoherences and coincidences too good to be true, I keep on watching. And well, I really like fairy tales retellings so despite the many flaws I do enjoy this series.

Series I want to watch next month:
None, I need to finish my pending series before starting new ones.

  2. I haven't watched any of these except for Once, which was fun, but I haven't got into more than a couple of episodes. I've usually got my head stuck in a book! Great post. :)
